The article analyzes the reduction of working hours as an instrument for promoting the dignity, health, and quality of life of workers in Latin America. The research is based on the role of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in consolidating decent work and its fundamental principles, relating them to Sustainable Development Goal 8 of the 2030 Agenda and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The study highlights the importance of international conventions aimed at limiting working hours and protecting social rights in the context of labor precarization in peripheral economies. It also addresses contributions from contemporary Latin American literature on social inequalities and the intensification of labor. The research adopts a qualitative exploratory approach, using bibliographic and documentary methods. It concludes that reducing working hours is an essential measure to reconcile economic development, social justice, and the promotion of human dignity at work.
