Abstract

Informal commerce is an activity that has been developed in different cities of Latin American countries, as is also the case in the Republic of Ecuador; It represents a source of work. The objective of the investigation is to identify the economic, labor, administrative and tax characteristics of the informal merchant in the city of Riobamba, Ecuador. The research is descriptive. The questionnaire is applied to a sample of 310 informal merchants from a population of 3600 who carry out their commercial activity around the markets. The results show that informal commerce is characterized by being an activity developed mainly by women, generally young and it is not essential to have a professional training; it allows to obtain an economic income to survive and generate a source of employment; it is motivated by necessity and economic independence; and the degree of satisfaction, recognition of the importance of paying taxes and predisposition significantly influence to become a formal merchant.
