HISTORICAL AND SOCIOPOLITICAL ASPECTS OF THE SPECTATIVES OF THE BULGARA TRANSITION. THE PARADIGMS OF THE MARKET ECONOMY
Keywords:
Bulgaria, Transition, Privatization, Neoliberal policiesAbstract
The transition towards the market economy in Bulgaria after 1989 was related to many expectations on the part of the population towards an improvement in the standard of living. Actually the protagonists of the changes were groups related to the old nomenclature of the party. Privatization at all costs and the implementation of neoliberal policy has brought a huge increase in social and poor differentiation. Bulgaria today is the poorest country in the European Union with a lower income level than countries such as Albania, Serbia and Macedonia. The objective of the research is to analyze the causes of the current situation. Results: it`s confirmed that the neoliberal policies and privatization of the public sector did not improve the standard of living, but worsened the economic situation. The double standard of the international and European institutions was demonstrated in terms of economic changes in Bulgaria. Conclusions: the problems of the poverty and the economic backwardness are directly linked to neoliberal policies, privatization and the tax system.
