OBESITY AS A WORK RISK IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT COMPANIES IN ECUADOR: STUDY IN CANTON MILAGRO

Abstract

Obesity and overweight, are one of the main causes of death, and more in people who remain seated in their Jobs The main objective is to establish the relation between vehicular work and obesity in interprovincial transport drivers in the Ecuadorian system, in addition to determine their body mass index (BMI), establish their current life and food habits and identify candidates to be diabetic, hypertensive etc, finally determine the application of responsible practices in front of the problem, as well as establish the labor and food causes that can lead to this health complication.The work has a qualitative or quantitative approach, since it handles variables that, when related, produce effects on human health. It is also descriptive, not experimental, of a crosscutting nature, carried out in October / 2017 to February 2018. The population of drivers of interprovincial bus cooperatives in Ecuador, but because it is so large, the canton Milagro has been chosen because it is an almost centric canton, so several transport companies pass through, the sample was obtained by nonprobabilistic sampling at convenience, constituting 218 drivers, The survey was used as an instrument for gathering information, which is related to 3 habits of consumption and physical activity that can be the cause of overweight and obesity. For ratings, approved IMC ranges were estimated, thus concluding that there is a significant relationship between the dynamics of driver work, eating habits and obesity. There is a large percentage of drivers with overweight and obesity candidates for diabetics, hypertensive, etc, schedules and work circumstances obliges them to eat away from home, the lack of physical activity is added with 77% and smoking 88% with this information and the high percentages of consumption of sugar (91%), fat (88%), salt (93%), it is concluded that there is an almost total ignorance of what is a work risk and the diseases that can generate obesity.
