DEAF STUDENT LEARNING FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF LIBRAS INTERPRETER

Abstract

This study aims to understand the learning of deaf students through the Libras Interpreter perspective. The Brazilian sign language has traveled an arduous path of much struggle and prohibition to be ensured by law. However, even today deaf students have the right to study, Libras is still worked late, which makes it difficult for students to teach and learn. The methodology used was based on the construction of data from a structured interview directed to three teachers of municipal schools in the city of Ipojuca-PE about the learning process of deaf students. For analysis, we transcribed the interviews and subjected them to content analysis from which emerged the following categories: Professional unpreparedness, Brazilian Sign Language as a catalyst for deaf student learning and the difficulties faced by deaf students in school, from these categories emerged. the subcategories for the discussions about the themes found in the research context. Content analysis has allowed us to infer the main barriers that affect deaf student learning, so it is important that schools and public policies develop strategies that drive and encourage these students to participate in the learning process, especially initiating the process. I work with Libras with children early so that they can develop their communication skills, because acquiring this language allows the child to understand the world around them.
