LA MUJER MIGRANTE EN LA SOCIEDAD COREANA: REVALORIZACIÓN DEL TRABAJO INVISIBLE FEMENINO
Keywords:
Women, Migration, Invisible work, Republic of Korea, Korean societyAbstract
This work addresses, from the humanities, the situation and problems of migrant women, mainly from Southeast Asia, who come to the Republic of Korea as wives of Korean citizens. The term “migrant wife” is used to define this group of women who are inserted into South Korean society with particular characteristics that, together, keep them vulnerable in the receiving society. It is analyzed, from a theoretical perspective, how migrant women should be considered specifically to address their migration and how they should not be included in a general group of migrants when they are studied. The work helps to visualize the contribution of this group of women to Korean society through their invisible or unseen work, which supplies the work that was once carried out by the Korean women. The paper evidences the support – which is not recognized – for the social structure, a fundamental contribution to the proper functioning of daily life, as well as reveals not only the invisibility of the work of a migrant women, but also the work of Korean women in contemporary Korean society.
