THE PARADOXES OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE STRUGGLE FOR TERRITORY AND FOR A LIFE FREE OF VIOLENCE OF THE PURÉPECHAS IN MICHOACÁN, MEXICO

Abstract

The proposal we present aims to analyze human rights in the face of the struggles of indigenous women (P’urépechas) of a community in the state of Michoacán, Mexico and its organization for the defense of their ancestral territory and against the violence they live Day by day in their communities, we show the complexity of the problem not only of the dispossession of the territory as a structural violence towards the peoples, but also the complexity of the internal struggle of women for their rights to live free of violence. We propose to analyze the tensions and challenges involved in defending indigenous rights for women when they are living in contexts of dispossession and what could be some future responses to those who should bet on human rights in an increasingly violent world. and globalized. To account for this, we will make a case analysis of the P’urépecha community through the stories and narratives of women who have been involved in these struggles. Thus, from an analysis from the critical theory of feminism and human rights we want to show that the defense of women's rights must bet on a change not only of discourses, but also of practices.
