Keywords:
Angel Pigurina, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Uruguay, Italy, Pigurina‟s Memorial, Italian Legion, MontevideoAbstract
The essay reconstructs the biographic profile of Angel Pigurina, legionary and friend of Giuseppe Garibaldi: the hero of the two worlds, who fought in the Italian legion of Montevideo (1843-1848) and in the First Italian War of Independence (1848-1849). After the latter war, at the invitation of Garibaldi, Colonel Pigurina and his family moved permanently to his second homeland, Uruguay, and his descendants still live there today. This contribution ends with an appendix that includes the “Memorial” of the military companies carried out by Pigurina in Uruguay and Italy, published for the first time in Latin America, plus the letters written by the hero of the two worlds to his friend between 1858 and 1875.
