THE RUSSIAN REVOLUTION AND THE DEVELOPMENT SPORTS PERIODIZATION IN THE SOVIET UNION

The objective of the review was to explain because the Soviet Union had attention to the content of the periodization to structure the training from the Russian Revolution with the goal of their athletes to achieve success in competitions. Through of the references it was possible to identify that the Soviet Union had attention the periodization because the previous knowledge about this theme used by the Greeks and this generated a succession of researches with the periodization that culminated in the creation of classical periodization in the 1950s and the elaboration of the block periodization in the late 70s. Other factor that contributed with the experiments on periodization in the Soviet Union was the political system that was totally controlled by the state and allowed the execution of a periodization of long-term. Also, the return of the Soviet Union to the Olympic Games of 52 and the "cold war" were relevant for the Soviets to study and test their athletes in various models of periodization with the goal of finding the best way to structure the training to bring victories in the sports field with the goal of showing the world the superiority of its political ideology. In conclusion, the sport periodization began with the Greeks, but the Soviet Union were the responsible in improve and disseminate this knowledge to the world sport with the aim of cause an improvement in athlete`s performance.
