A CURRENT VISION OF THE OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY STRATEGY

The alarming figures of accidents and occupational diseases provided by the ILO, are described, as well as the background of the development of the OSH discipline and the different stages through which it has been carried out up to the present time. A synthesis is made of the conceptual framework through which the current labor world passes and how this influences the working conditions and consequently in the OSH conditions. We make an analysis in the new context of labor relations and the perception of entrepreneurs within the neoliberal framework, trends in risk management and the establishment of OSH system. It expresses the need for the existence of certain premises for these systems to be efficient and enumerates insufficiencies that in practice are observed on a daily basis. Finally, the three essential aspects that must exist for the success of risk management are outlined: a competent state inspection, social responsibility of governments, employers and workers and management system appropriate to each type of company.
