Abstract

There have been many historical achievements in the struggle for women's rights, currently there is an active participation of women at all levels, socio-political-economic, scientific, technological, ecological, private initiative, research, etc. There is evident progress in reproductive health, while more and more women are exercising their right to decide the times and conditions of their motherhood; in sexual education allowing to diminish the risks of sexually transmitted diseases or unwanted pregnancies, however the figures of intrafamily violence continue to be chilling; in the workplace, there is still fighting against sexual harassment, discrimination and wage gaps. Discrimination against women in all spheres of society weakens society understood as a whole. It is important that the women of Mexico, participate to raise awareness of the importance of respect for gender equity, because with effort and work women have become visible, demonstrating that we are fully trained to participate in different areas of human life. The defense of human rights must be a priority for governments and contemporary societies. Equality and non-discrimination between men and women is not immediate, it is the result of gradual and substantial changes in the values of our culture. This is a fundamental principle for the advancement of a comprehensive and just human development. The challenge to achieve true gender equity is monumental, equality between men and women continues to be an aspiration rather than a reality, a path where there is still a long way to go. The best measure of freedom in a society is determined by the degree of equality of women.
