SELFIE: TECHNOLOGY OF SELF IN LATE CAPITALISM AND ITS DISCONTENT

This article discusses the selfie phenomenon using two differents theoretical perspectives. First, as practice of looking in the postphotographic era; second, as a technology of self in late capitalism. This analysis dialogues with the medical and psychological discourses on dismorphic syndromes, anxiety and depression. The results point that in late capitalism, selfies constitute a technology of self that respond to a visual regime resulting in discontent from the tyranny of the image.
