Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the evolution of mortality and epidemiological features in subjects that suffered a stroke in a 5-year period Methods: Mortality rates per 100.000 individuals were calculated, standardized by age, gender and region of residence, using the Metropolitan Region population in the year 2012 as the standard population along the analyzed period. Results: Crude deaths due to stroke between years 2008 and 2012 gradually increased in women. Standardized mortality rates show a progressive decrease. Discussion: Despite lower stroke mortality rates, national public health strategies directed towards early detection need to be created. Inter and intra regional variability should be studied.
