The objective of this article is to evaluate the recent history of population distribution in the Metropolitan Area of Puebla (AMP). In particular, the results obtained by the construction and modernization of communication routes focused on promoting population mobility are analyzed, as is the case of the Ecological Peripheral (PE).
Construction of the PE began in 1994, and since its inauguration the population living in the AMP has taken advantage of this road artery to change their place of residence and/or workplace within the Area itself. For this reason, the municipality of Cuautlancingo currently has the highest rate of population concentration in the entire state of Puebla, likewise the municipalities of San Andrés Cholula, San Pedro Cholula and Huejotzingo present population growth rates that exceed those of the Puebla city.
