CULTURAL INFLUENCES AND THE IDENTITY OF THE BRAZILIAN PEOPLE ACCORDING TO DARCY RIBEIRO AND MÁRIO DE ANDRADE
Keywords:
National identity, Macunaíma, Brazilian people, MiscegenationAbstract
This paper proposes an analysis of the importance of Brazilian identity by drawing a parallel between the work “Brazilian people: the formation and meaning of Brazil” by Darcy Ribeiro and “Macunaíma” by Mário de Andrade. The objectives are to synthesize the vision demonstrated in the work of both authors and focus on the construction of Brazilian cultural identity. It was found that Brazil is a hybrid and mixed country due to the Portuguese colonization process. In this context, two factors of great importance to the miscegenation were the coinedness, the origin of the mamelucos and the feeling of not belonging. It is understood that the national identity arouses the feeling of citizenship, which will be present in all actions of the population.
