ANALYSIS OF THE FAMILY CONTEXT OF CHILDREN WITH MICROCEPHALY

This article has as general objective to identify: what causes parents to reject children with microcephaly when receiving the diagnosis, even in the first months of gestation, during prenatal care and seek as an alternative abortion, mainly by the paternal figure. In this way, the following specific objectives are necessary: To understand what feeling parents feel in receiving a diagnosis that is contrary to their expectation; Understanding whether the economic situation actually contributes to the child's unacceptability or whether it is the prejudice that discourages the child from striving to analyze how guilty parents feel about aborting the child who is diagnosed with microcephaly. It is a qualitative field research between two families that has children with microcephaly. The microcephaly history, family acceptability, definition of microcephaly, reports of the interviewed mothers and the results of the data analysis were analyzed.
