Keywords:
Autistic Spectrum, Labor Inclusion, Social Model of Disability, Supported EmploymentAbstract
The Autistic Spectrum is a condition characterized by the presence of difficulties in the areas of communication and social interaction. However, many individuals with this condition have the capacity and desire to do a good job despite the fact that there are still many obstacles that explain the high unemployment figures that affect such a demographic segment in Chile. Statistical data corresponding to the II National Study of the Disability of the Ministry of Social Development were examined to have demographic indicators about the labor participation of people with disabilities, taking into account that there are no specific data on the Autistic Spectrum in said study, what contributes to that there is less information available in this matter. The objective of this research was to investigate the current situation of the labor insertion of Adults with Autistic Spectrum in Chile, for which the Chilean legislation on disability and labor inclusion was extensively reviewed together with identifying which obstacles affect the full implementation of the tangible positive changes that were promised by such legislation. Finally, the opinion of civil society about legislative advances and setbacks has also been incorporated and what alternative proposals exist to ensure that people with disabilities, including the Autistic Spectrum, exercise their right to work.
