TERRITORIALITY OF POWER

Territorial or geopolitical policy, while it has always been fundamental, in recent times has taken on an absolutely strategic character. In this article, we explore the main reasons for this phenomenon that marks the roadmaps and contents of the systemic dynamics, as well as those of the internal relations and hierarchies of power. To argue the importance of geopolitics, three central elements are addressed: the conception of territory and territoriality as the construction of ways of living; the dimensions and content of the global process of material reproduction; and the place of territory in the definition of the conditions of economic competition and global hegemony. To this, we add an assessment of the increasing intervention of military instruments and perspectives in the battle for the control of territories, which surpass the visions and skills of the markets. The hypothesis sustained throughout the paper is that the dispute over territories assumes a vital character in contemporary capitalism and that this leads to the militarization of the strategies of power and of the construction of hegemony.
