Infertility is the inability to achieve a pregnancy in people of reproductive age after having constant sex for one or two years without protection. Approximately 40% of cases of infertility are due to the male factor, and of these around 15%, azoospermie is responsible. Male infertility causes concern and stress in both the clinician and the patient, since the possibility of being infertile greatly reduces their self-esteem. The objective of the present study is to determine the prevalence of azoospermie and the relationship that exists with infertility in men from 20 to 49 years of age living in a rural area of Ecuador. For this, a descriptive cross-sectional investigation was carried out, using a sample of 97 men with a margin of error of 5% and a confidence interval of 90%. The results were processed in Excel and the statistical analysis was performed in SPSS 20. A prevalence of infertility of 18.5% and of azoospermie of 16.6% was found, with a normal ejaculatory volume in all the cases studied and a content of pyocytes bacteria in most semen samples of both fertile and infertile males. It is concluded that the prevalence of azoospermie and infertility found are worrisome data and that a thorough investigation is needed to reduce these indices.
