INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: A CASE STUDY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF INSTITUTIONAL THEORY

This study deals with the centrality of the assumptions of institutional theory in the performance evaluation model in an institution. To this end, it aims to analyze the stages of institutionalization of the dimensions present in the performance evaluation instrument for approval of probationary stage of public servants in a Brazilian higher education institution, especially with regard to the coercive forces of the environment, such as regulation. official and cultural expectations. Through the inductive method, we took advantage of empirical research that already tried to history and identify the main aspects of institutional theory. A content analysis was performed on documentary data collected in the performance evaluation form for probationary approval of the chosen university. The results point to the predominance of dimensions in sedimentation stages (or total institutionalization) and objectification, but characteristics of the habitalization stage were also noticed. The study concluded that the institutional theory presented itself as a coherent paradigm to the standardization and modeling of the analyzed instrument.
