THE SUGAR CANE AGROINDUSTRY IN MEXICO AND THE FACTORS THAT HAVE DETERMINED YOUR RECENT HISTORY (1961-2021)
Abstract
The sugarcane agribusiness has enjoyed social and economic importance throughout the world, for
several centuries. However, throughout its history it has faced serious problems that have put its permanence at risk. In Mexico, one of the main producing countries, this situation has been aggravated by factors such as the different agricultural policies adopted over the years. The abandonment of agribusiness by the government and individuals has caused production and
industrialization systems to become obsolete and inefficient. Currently, they are facing financial problems and loss of competitiveness in the international environment. The objective of this article is to make an analysis in its historical context of the last 60 years, by means of some indicators, and to
present proposals for improvement.
