ENVIRONMENTAL BIOETHICS AND ANIMAL PROTECTION: IDENTIFYING COMMUNICATION NOISES

Abstract

Animal Protection has been composed of activism, academy and lay public. Although
they share a common interest, language differences culminate in distorted
conceptions, potentiating conflicts, and delaying change. The objective was to identify
the representation of these actors regarding each other and about themselves,
indicating idealized and negative conception of Science, realistic and positive for
Activism and realistic negative for the lay public. Representations conditioned to
gender, educational level and housing area, indicated an imprecision of the role of
each actor attesting to the existence of noises in communication and calling for a tool
such as Environmental Bioethics that promotes education and guides decisions in the
intrinsic value of non-human animal.
