SPATIAL EXCLUSION FOR PEOPLE WITH BLINDNESS AT UFCG
Abstract
This essay presents as its goal the assessment of some standardization that deal with the
accessibility for students with blindness, checking their spatial operationalization at Federal University
of Campina Grande (UFCG). In this regard, there were made analysis of some current techniques
and legislation, besides their application in adapting the space of this higher education institution. To
empirically collect the material, there were made photographic registers of the space, aiming to
assess its adaptation or not to the social inclusion of the aforementioned students. As outcomes, we
detected that the public spatial arrangement presents inaccessible geographic forms for the graduate
students with blindness, offering them just a few tactile floors, which sometimes are inadequate.
Furthermore, there is no signalization and orientation to ensure the mobility of these students, making
harder the access to fundamentals facilities to build up their knowledge, like laboratories, libraries,
classrooms, administrative offices etc.
