This article analyses the the theoretical perspectives that allowed the construction of a methodological guide for mapping the uses of public space in “La Matriz” borough in Ambato, Ecuador. The proposal is to specify the concepts that allowed the making of a methodological perspective aimed at reflecting about the relationship between inhabitants and space in a specific context. A review of the contruction of the methodological guide is carried out through a multidisciplinary approach of the ethnography, thus producing a dialog between theorical & practical views for the analisis of social imaginary that are present in the relationships between the inhabitant & his space. Through the construction & application of the methodological guide it was posible to understand the community rhetoric & organitional practice as two categories that feed historically in their relationship, evidencing the presence of class practices and discourses in the construction of public space.
