THE AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER: KNOWLEDGE OF FUNDAMENTAL TEACHERS OF A PRIVATE SCHOOL

This study aimed to investigate if the teacher working with a student with autism spectrum disorder in the classroom, has knowledge about the disorder. The theoretical methodological option for data analysis was qualitative measures. To obtain the data applied a questionnaire to teachers of elementary school (6th and 8th grade) who work in a private school of Recife with students with autism spectrum disorder. Search results from the data analysis denied initial hypothesis, by revealing that the subjects surveyed have theoretical and practical knowledge about autism spectrum disorder. The contribution of this research goes to the sense of promoting discussions and propositions on education systems, schools and classrooms on the subject on screen, in order to contribute to the school and the teacher better serve the student.
