AN APPROACH TO THE DEFINITION OF THE CONDITIONS OF INTERDISCIPLINARITY IN DESIGN-ART PROJECTS FROM A COMPLEXITY APPROACH AND ITS DISTINCTION IN THREE WORKS DEVELOPED IN MEXICALI, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO
Abstract
In the city of Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, projects that feature characteristics of design and art
have been exhibited in recent years. The interdisciplinary dynamic between design and art enables
relationships with theories, methodologies, techniques and technologies from both disciplines. This
work is considered as applied research developed from two qualitative methods: analysis of text
information and semi-structured interviews. There are two objectives: to reinterpret the conditions of
interdisciplinarity from a conceptual framework of complex thinking; and generate an analysis method
to identify the conditions of interdisciplinarity in design-art in three projects developed between 2018
and 2020. As a result, the three conditions of interdisciplinarity, exchange, interaction and cooperation
are proposed, based on a method of analysis of interdisciplinary projects between design and art.
