Abstract

This document is an exercise from the Historical Theory and Social Memory hat seeks to put into
reflective action the treatment of a historical fact from sources, which from the official position, try to
make a past explicit without trying to recover the deontological sense in the veracity of past actions.
The itinerary between a fait accompli, as an “existing” past and res judicata as a “latent” present,
shows differences when establishing an empathic interpretation of the intimacy of historical subjects.
Fighting pain, as a necessary question to learn and at the same time as an alternative to moral or
legal sanction, must be referenced in order to qualify as a subject with historical memory. Learning
from memory involves multiple stages which cannot be divided from the official discourse, since the
value in training from a critical citizenship necessarily implies facing reality. The Rettig Report is a
historical document that was born from the official to the official and within a climate of political
transition where Democracy still fears a Dictatorship "kept in the barracks", therefore "transparency"
and "negotiating" of the testimonies must be reread in the maturity of the 30 years and with the vigor
of the new generations. In this descriptive-reflective synthesis, the aim is to motivate the gestation of
an active, less anesthetized and more purposeful memory.
