SUSTAINABILITY, GOVERNANCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION: RESPONSES TO A WORLD OF CRISES
Abstract
This paper seeks to carry out a theoretical study about the relationship that must be established
between sustainability, environmental governance and environmental education, highlighting how
these concepts can be useful to seek answers in a world of crisis. To reach this objective, the following
specific objectives will be developed: a) to analyze the environmental crisis and the construction of
the concept of sustainability; b) verifying how the idea of environmental governance has been
established, the levels at which this concept can be verified and its contradictions and c) raising
questions about what are the relevant aspects that can be offered by environmental education in such
a complex context of interconnected crises. The method used is deductive, theoretical and
philosophical. As a result, it is observed that there are contradictions in the possibilities of using
governance in view of the structural problems of the economic model. Nevertheless, the approach
studied can be useful in a horizon where there is a belief in full awareness of socio-environmental
issues, especially in critical moments as a possible long-term solution
