AUGMENTED REALITY APPLICATION ON THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE CERRO DE LOS VIEJOS, LA PAMPA, ARGENTINA
Abstract
Cerro de Los Viejos is an archaeological site located in the southeast of the province of La Pampa
that in pre-hispanic and colonial times would have represented a key space for human survival. One
of the distinctive aspects of the site resides in a system of six dams built by equestrian populations in
the 18th and 19th centuries in response to the permanent lack of water. Between 2016 and 2020,
from the Directorate of Heritage of the Secretary of Culture of La Pampa, we formulated a project to
define a management plan for the site. In this article I share some results of this experience,
particularly with regard to accessibility, archaeological research, hiking, participation of indigenous
communities and neighboring towns and design of posters with the application of augmented reality
technology.
