THE NEW PUBLIC MANAGEMENT, COMPLEMENTARY TOOLSFOR THE SUCCESS OF PUBLIC POLICY
Abstract
One of the main concerns of governments is to obtain the greatest amount of resources to meet the
needs that the population demands in terms of goods and services, however, the efficient use of them
is a problem that most deal with of government entities; being the New Public Management (NGP)
one of the approaches that has tried to mitigate this problem. In this way, according to the NPM, it
would be expected that between a greater use of the tools proposed by it, a greater amount of
resources will be obtained, therefore, the objective of this article is to analyze if there is a relationship
between income of the municipalities and the use of NPM tools. The analysis considers 19
municipalities in the State of Hidalgo and the data used are local income and the index on municipal
budget information prepared by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO). The results show
that, through the OLS Method, there is a positive and statistically significant relationship between
local income and the Index proposed by IMCO.
