THE PROPAGANDA AND THE ESTHETICS OF THE FRANQUISTA REGIME IN SPAIN AND THE CEREMONY OF REMEMBRANCE A LOS CAÍDOS POR FRANCO
Abstract
Franco’s military system reivindicó its legitimacy at promoting the strengthening of the religious faith and
reinforcing the patriotic principles according to the identidad nacionalcatólica imposed, which was disseminated
in a systematic way by the artillería propagandista controlled by the inexhaustible alliance Nation- Church. The
remembrance of the glorious imperial past of Spain was used as analogy due to Franco’s victory and the death
of who fought for this victory during the Spanish Civil War; event that was praised like an heroic act and at the
same time with totally devotion to God’s will. The monuments dedicated to these heroes, which ones were raised
in the forties and fifties, and through these ones the system wanted to build a collective memory so that could
be useful to the regime’s interests. These monuments have to be considered historical documents, which reveal
the esthetic features, the carga ideológica, and the centralized control of all kind of graphic and visual expression
depending on structures of official powers, through which idiosyncrasy of the Franco regime is defined
