BUT I HAVE GREAT FAITH IN THAT LADY! LLINESSES’ SIGNIFICANSE AND SOLUTION AMONG MIGRATS FROM BOLIVIA IN BAHIA BLANCA, ARGENTINA
Abstract
The main aim of this work is to analyze the social representations of health, illness and the ways in which these bring about different
practices which articulate in diverse health care models. This is research carried out with ethnographic qualitative methodology. In this
article we use two research strategies which are typical of the disciplines of history (mainly of the oral history) as well as of anthropology:
life stories and participant observation. From these techniques we analyze the process of health, illness and assistance of men and
women who come from Bolivia to Bahía Blanca.
From this qualitative work we could identify and analyze the following practices which have emerged in non-hegemonic health care
models: a) the link between the origin of the celebration of the Virgin of Urkupiña in the city of Bahía Blanca (OJO! El texto dice la
vinculación entre pero no menciona dos factores, no sería la vinculación con?); b) the convertion to The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints (mormons) and the healing of an illness. Using the same theoretical-methodological perspective, we also focused
on and analyzed health and assistance practices articulated in the Hegemonic Medical Model. (Esto parece ser una denominación,
por la mayúscula que usaste. Mi duda es la palabra Medical?). The results of this work bring about a situated knowledge which shows
the ways in which the migrants relate different health care models in the race for solving their medical struggles. This happens in a
specific time and place to which we reach from a field work that is also limited in time and place.
