TELEREHABILITATION AS CURRENT PROPOSAL OF REHABILITATION IN DISABLED PATIENTS
Abstract
WHO defines disability as: impairment, limitation and participation restriction as a result of physical and
functional alterations, which directly affect the relationship with the environment. In the 2014- 2021 action plan
WHO recognizes disability as a public health problem, because people with disabilities have the greatest
unmet needs in health and rehabilitation. In our local context people with disabilities find deficiencies in access
to rehabilitation services, thus arising a constant search for mechanisms of intervention to improve the quality
of life, interaction with the environment, the recovery of functionality and conditions of patients. Thus
rehabilitation programs must meet these needs in addition to overcoming geographical, economic and social
barriers. In this review article telerehabilitation is presented as a response to such difficulties, using computer
technology and communication, eliminating constraints people face for their displacement, minimizing risks and
providing greater adherence to rehabilitation programs.
