STUDENTS AND ART: AN ANALYSIS OF ARTISTC PERCEPTION IN FOUR CHILEAN HIGH SCHOOLS
Abstract
This article seeks to understand art education in Chilean educational institutions from the point of view of the
students themselves. In this exploratory study we surveyed and interviewed students in High School -aged
between 16 and 18 years- in the Metropolitan Region to understand how they apprehend art according to
socioeconomic status. The results show important differences between students from different socio-economic
groups. Moreover, the study reveals the social role played by school in an unequal society
