ATTENTION TO DIVERSITY IN SPAIN: FROM THE GENERAL LAW OF EDUCATION TO LOMLOE
Abstract
Attention to diversity in education is a fundamental pillar within the educational system, complying
with the individualized attention of students under the precepts of equality, equity and nondiscrimination. At the same time, it responds to national and international guidelines in education and
care for groups that make up the whole of society. The modifications and evolution of attention to
diversity from the General Law of Education (1970) to the current Organic Law of Improvement of
the Organic Law 2/2006, 3 of May, de Education (LOMLOE), show the social evolution of Spain
through the educational system, from which the consideration of students from a point of view of
inferiority to a level of equality in access to education is extracted, following the evolution of models
of attention to diversity. Through this comparative study, we are going to analyze the concept of
attention to diversity in the future of Spanish legislation. We will pay special attention to the influence
of competencies in the process of educational inclusion, as well as their need for consideration for
the correct educational equity of all students.
