THE DEVIL IN THE VISIONS OF BEATAS IN COLONIAL AMERICA
Abstract
This article intends to show the importance of the visions of venerable and heterodox pious women,
who lived in colonial times, in America, with the figure of the devil. Both types of women, despite
having a different position in their community, had religious practices that were shared and
experienced in a similar way. The blessed women studied to develop this article are Santa Rosa de
Lima (Peru) and Francisca de San José and Gertrudis Rosa Ortiz de Cortés from New Spain.
