The theme of the history of education journals has recently gained global interest, to the point of holding workshops on the subject in the European community (2015-2017). Since then, the Journal of the History of Latin American Education (RHELA) has been invited to participate in the wordshop of world education history magazines, for which we believe it is convenient to present a balance within the 20 years of its creation. The present effort seeks to account for the state of art in which RHELA is located in order to report the contributions to the academic world, and especially to higher education. Indeed, there are few magazines devoted to the visibility of doctoral programs, but this is precisely the mission of the Rhela. Since the RHELA (1998-2018) was born to respond to the dissemination of research within the framework of the Doctorate of Educational Sciences led by the network RUDECOLOMBIA (1996-2018), without detriment to the participation of IberoAmerican researchers. It is highlighted that RHELA has promoted a scientific-academic and training project, located in Latin America and the Caribbean.
