CULTURAL SYMPTOMS OF THE PERUVIAN GENERATION OF THE 80S IN THE SCHOOL NOTEBOOKS OF THE ARTIST NEREIDA APAZA, IN THE LIGHT OF ERWIN PANOFSKY'S METHOD OF INTERPRETATION OF OBJECTS
Abstract
The research focuses on the use of Erwin Panofsky's iconographic and iconological methodology for
the contextual analysis of a set of works belonging to the series called "artist notebooks" by the
Peruvian visual artist Nereida Apaza. The application of the method of interpretation will establish the
qualities of the subject in the objects of representation, under the gaze of the pre-iconographic, the
iconographic and the iconological, taking into account the aspects of its primary or natural subject,
secondary or conventional subject and its intrinsic or content significance. The qualitative research
analyzes a set of 10 pieces classified as contemporary art. It is concluded that the proposed method
is feasible to identify the influence of a social and political environment from the past and the evidence
of some cultural symptoms present in the matter of contemporary works of visual art.
