The objective of this article is to analyze the use of criteria and parameters of language and graphic design in poster format posters made for Ecuadorian cinema; for which, the period between the years 2006-2016 is taken as a reference. For this purpose, the semiotics of the image and its connotation are taken as theoretical support, graphic detonation of the shapes, colors and composition structures. Therefore, the study was developed using an exploratory methodology with a qualitative approach, applied to 22 Ecuadorian movie posters, divided between the different genres and cinematographic concepts. As results, it is observed that the management of design criteria exists mainly in the photographic composition of the posters; however, the application of an enriched semiotic language through the use of signs and symbols is limited to the use of color and in some posters to the typesetting and its signifiers.
